The Quay brothers were born near Philadelphia where they studied at the Philadelphia College of Art, then later in London at the Royal College of Art.
In 1980 they formed KONINCK with colleague Keith Griffiths and since then they have produced a hybrid variety of puppet animation and live action film work.
Their portfolio of work includes several documentaries for Channel 4 and the BBC; shorts for Live Earth (entitled “Alice in not so Wonderland”) and the Wellcome Trust’s Medicine Man exhibition at the British Museum (entitled “The Phantom Museum”); their acclaimed feature film “The Piano Tuner of Earthquakes”; decors for the English National Opera, the Royal Court, the Almeida and the Royal National Theatre; interludes for MTV; music promos for the likes of His Name is Alive and Tom Waits; and commercials for Fox Sports (mixing live action and animation), Badoit, and Drug Free America.
Their style is quite literally of another world. At times twisted and dark, at times vibrant and quirky, and always with a depth and passion that leave you wondering where on earth they come from and where they have taken you.
