Academy Films

Kim was born in Cape Town, South Africa.
He began assisting local fashion photographers in 1989 and soon began shooting independently. In 1995 he made the cross over to film and began shooting television commercials. His stills experience immediately translated well into the film medium and he soon developed a reputation for strong graphic imagery.

In 1998 he co-founded his own production company Egg and in the years to follow developed a strong local and International clientele. Kim has gone on to receive much acclaim for this work.

In 2007 the International advertising publication Shots listed Kim Geldenhuys amongst the “Top 100 Creative Minds” in the world. The list forms part of Shots 100th issue which celebrates creative advertising by listing the top 100 most influential people in the history of the publication. The list is made up of agency creatives and directors.

Kim was also included in Ad Age Globals 2001 list of the top 100 directors as well being listed 15th in the 2002 Gunn Report’s most awarded directors for 2001. Egg was also included in the Gunn Report’s list of the 25 most awarded production companies for 2001 – Egg was the only South African Production House mentioned.

Over the years Kim has worked on major global brands such as Ford (Ogilvy London), Nikon and BMW (Fallon Minneapolis), Virgin Airlines (BBDO Johannesburg) and T-Mobile (Saatchi & Saatchi London).
