Walter began his career directing music videos at Control, a small production company based in London.
In 1993 he moved to Stigma where he first directed a promo for the band Prodigy. Their collaboration continued throughout the mid to late 1990s, including two critically acclaimed and award winning promos, ‘Breathe’, which won Best Video at the MTV Europe Awards in 1997 and ‘Firestarter’, which won Best Video in the NME People’s Choice Award 1996.
Walter joined Academy in 1997, launching himself with the video for The Verve’s ‘Bitter Sweet Symphony’. In 1998 he began another successful collaboration, this time with the band Massive Attack. This relationship produced promos for ‘Rising Son’, ‘Angel’ and ‘Teardrop’. The latter won Best Video at the 1998 MTV Europe Awards and was nominated for a BRIT and D&AD awards.
He has also worked with artists as diverse as Madonna, David Bowie, Nine Inch Nails and Stereo MC’s. At the 2003 CADS Walter pick up the Award for Best Video of the Year and Best Dance Video for the Audio Bully’s ‘We Don’t Care’.
Walter entered the commercial arena in 1997 with an ad for Volkswagen Golf. His commercial career has been as successful as his music video career, collecting a Gold Lion for VW ‘Heaven’ at Cannes 2000. He has completed two commercials for Coca-Cola, helping them extend their brand image, and other clients include Caffreys, the BBC, Orange, Adidas and Diet Coke.
Walter’s DFT “Lucky” won him an arrow at BTAA Craft for Best Video Post Production.
His recent work includes “Bubbles” for Vodafone, an epic Johnnie Walker film for BBH, a Nike football film, the hard hitting COI film “Futures” against underage drinking, and the controversial “Kick it out” football against homophobia campaign.
