Coffee & Conversation with Peter Cattaneo

Peter has recently completed a film for McDonalds through Leo Burnett, London.  The film seeks to build on the proposition that McDonalds is not just a fast food restaurant, but a place where people can meet for coffee and have a natter.  In the commercial we pick up snippets of conversation ranging from make ups and break ups to office boredom and teen gossip.

Si & Ad Hijack the New Year Ad Break

Si & Ad have collaborated with Saatchi & Saatchi and Alesha Dixon to create a 3 minute single shot promo for Weightwatchers.  The film uses real women from the weight loss program dancing to Dixon’s new track, ‘Do It Our Way (Play).’

The complex shoot saw the camera weave in and out of interiors including windows, doors, through a car and into a swimming pool before it reveals Dixon leading a final hurrah in the street.

Academy Success at the British Arrows Craft Awards

Academy picked up 2 Golds from 5 Nominations at last nights British Arrows Craft Awards.  The evening was hosted by the always brilliant Adam Buxton, who opened the evening with a unique rendition ‘Rudolf The Red Nose Reindeer’.

Our wins were for Production Design (awarded to Gregg Shoulder for Ikea) and Use of Recorded Music (Anthony Moore @ Factory for Ikea).

We were nominated for Cinematography (Guinness ‘Dark Life’), Editing (VW ‘Last Tango in Compton’) and Original Music (Nokia ‘Poodle Loop’).

Special thanks to Academy’s MD Lizie Gower, who laid on Bacon Sarnies this morning to help combat the pangs of hangover hunger.

Return of the Rev

Peter Cattaneo’s BAFTA winning ‘Rev’ returned to TV screens last night in a special episode, guest starring Ralph Fiennes as the Bishop of London. The first of a 6 part series shows Reverend Adam Smallbone portrayed as a local hero and nominated for a Pride of Britain Award.

Martin De Thurah creates The Holiday of a Lifetime

Thomson have launched a 90 second film through Beattie McGuinness Bungay, directed by the always-brilliant Martin De Thurah. The piece is maturely narrated by a wise young boy and focuses on grown ups obsession with time. He goes on to remind viewers that the time spent on holiday will last in the memory forever.

The film was shot over 3 days in Tenerife, lit by Lasse Frank and edited by Mikkel Nilsen.

The Conks & McDonald's Ride Again

Ben & Chris (that’s Conkerco) teamed up with regular collaborators Rob & Mark over at Leo Burnett and have created a quirky little number for Maccie D’s.  The film shows a crescendo of peculiar locations and scenarios where the new Breakfast Wrap is being devoured.

The film was shot over 2 days in and around Manchester, lit by Ben Magahy and cut by Nik Hindson at The Assembly Rooms.

Homelessness and the Arts by Jakob Marky

Inspired by his work for Coke Zero, VCCP approached Jakob to direct one of a series of 4 films to support the O2 'Think Big' initiative sponsoring youth community programmes.

'Homelessness and the arts' was filmed over 4 days in Newcastle, documenting the ambitions of a young ex-homeless man, who hopes to change public preconceptions through the artistic expression of the homeless community.

Time travelling with Si & Ad

Si & Ad have just shot a commercial titled ‘1955’ for McDonalds.  The film shows a couple taking a trip to their local McDonalds with the scenery around them changing as they go.  Fiats become Buicks, Flymos become Qualcasts, mountain bikes become retro bicycles and hair, wardrobe and overall styling hark back to the fashions of the time.

‘1955’ was shot over 2 days in the UK and Chicago through Leo Burnett, London.

Nabil joins Academy Films & A+

Nabil Elderkin joins Academy Films & A+ for Commercial, Content and Music Promo representation. As well as his impressive photography career, Nabil has built up a solid body of work in the music video world directing innovative work for Kanye West, Bon Iver & Frank Ocean among others, his feature documentary 'Bouncing Cats' follows the breakdance scene in the slums of Uganda. While travelling he puts his blackberry to good use on his Nabil Likes You blog.

Seb Edwards HTC Detour

Seb has just completed a 2 minute film for mobile phone company, HTC. The emotive piece follows a motley crew of cyclists taking a night ride through the dazzling sights of Warsaw.

Shot in Poland over 3 nights, the riders take a detour through a car wash whirring at full tilt, the Palace of Culture and Science, a neon lit fairground, the city underground, the famous PKIN building and one of Warsaw’s busiest city flyovers, performing wheelies, bunny hops and tricks along the way, view here.
