Biography

Andrea Mae Perez

Andrea is a Spanish and American-Ecuadorian director, born in Madrid. She graduated in June 2015 from the University of the Arts London with a First Class Honours degree in Film and Television Production. Her short film Desert-ar was part of the official selection at the BFI Future Film Festival in London, Shorts of Tap in Berlin and the San Mauro Film Festival, as well as a finalist at the Blow-Up Arthouse Film Festival of Chicago. Since its making, she has directed a variety of music videos and film projects, such as a narrative piece commissioned by Tate Collective for painter Edward Burne-Jones’ first major retrospective in London in 40 years.

Andrea’s work stems from exploring magical realism as a visual art form. Her close attention to framing and expressionistic colour amplifies her ability to cast a distinctive atmosphere and mood across her work. The absurdity of her subjects and their caricature only add to the surreal element of her pieces as she further delves into the human condition in a heightened and evocative fashion.
